LAWN CARE – 5 TIPS FOR MAINTAINING A LUSH LAWN

If you truly love your garden, lawn care may just be the most enjoyable activity for you. There is nothing more beautiful than a lawn that is lush, well-kept green carpet around your home.
The secret to a great looking lawn is consistent and routine lawn care. With the right attitude and some expertise, taking care of your lawn can be a pleasant activity. The key is doing the right things at the right moment.

1. One of the most important parts of lawn care is mowing your lawn properly. It is quite unfortunate that a lot of people have little knowledge about how to mow the right way. When mowing the lawn, the blades of the mower should be low enough to cut the grass but not too low that you cut too close to the roots. If grass is cut too close to the roots, the grass burns up when the sun is hot and there is little rain. A rule of thumb is keeping the grass at 3 inches long.

2. Never leave the mowing until the grass is too long or the growth rate will be damages and the mowing will only leave unsightly lumps of grass in odd spots.

3. Before you mow, check your blades. Make sure you get them sharpened regularly so that mowing will be much smoother and easier.

4. Another vital part of lawn care is hydration of the lawn. You need to remember that your lawn needs water. How much watering depends on where you live and the type of soil in the garden. The basic rule is that after walking through the garden and footprints remain even after a few minutes, or when there are brown spots of grass in your garden, then your lawn needs watering. But, you also need to avoid watering too much or you will find the grass rotting.
Try using a rain gauge in measuring how much water you are giving the lawn. Overwatering not only depletes the water supply, it makes the plants prone to rot, pests and only adds to storm-water runoff. Also note that the more often you water the lawn, the faster the lawn grows and the more often mowing is required.

5. When it comes to lawn care, you need to recognize which insects harm your lawn. You should try to find out how to keep these insects away. There are many products available which will help you deal with insects that cause damage. However, do note that there are also insects that are beneficial for the health of your lawn as they keep the bad insects away. Remember that pesticides kill organisms in the soil which will contribute to a healthy and lush lawn. The more you avoid using harsh chemicals, the better the condition of your soil will remain.
Keeping your lawn green and lush is a matter of pride for many. Following simple lawn care practices makes for a beautiful and natural-looking lawn has become a large part of how lawns add so much more to any home.
